BONK, Bertha (Parenteau)
Bertha (Parenteau) Bonk, 90, of Windsor, beloved wife for 62 years of the late John F. Bonk, passed away on Saturday, (February 23, 2013) in Windsor. Born in the Wilson section of Windsor on August 28, 1922, daughter of the late Lucien and Yvonne (Gagne) Parenteau, she was a lifelong resident of Windsor and a graduate of John Fitch High School, Class of 1939. After graduation, she took a position at the Fuller Brush Company in Hartford before leaving to stay home with her children. She was a communicant of St. Gabriel Church in Windsor where she was a member of the Women's Club and the Rosary Society. She volunteered for many years for the American Red Cross Blood Drives at St. Gabriel Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, playing cards, bingo, crocheting, bowling, watching UConn Basketball games, and spending time with her family and friends. For many years, she enjoyed spending summers at Misquamicut Beach in Rhode Island and winters at Fort Myers Beach in Florida. Bertha was always happy and had an infectious smile that would light up a room. She was a very caring person who made friends easily. She leaves a son, John L. Bonk and his wife Yola of West Simsbury; four daughters, Linda Tave and her husband Dennis of Mahopac, NY, Karen Cullinan and her husband Thomas of Enfield, Cynthia Causey and her husband Robert of Windsor, and Joyce Suleski and her husband Richard of Southington; 11 grandchildren, Kyle Tave, Brooke Speechley, Ryan Cullinan, Katie Grivois, Brianne Bonk, Jennifer Suleski, Richard Suleski, Gabrielle Bonk, Lauren Bonk, Audrey Bonk, and Jennifer DeWitt; a great granddaughter, Bella Rose Norrman; three sisters, Anita Sweet and Jacqueline Bokun both of Windsor, and Diana Phaneuf and her husband Gene of Clearwater, FL; and a goddaughter, Doreen Jankowski of South Windsor. Besides her husband she was predeceased by a son, Robert F. Bonk.
Family and friends may gather on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 9:15 a.m., at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor, followed by a Funeral Mass, 10 a.m., at St. Gabriel Church, Windsor. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Her family will receive friends on TODAY, Feb. 26, 4-7 p.m., at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home.
