Caroline Kimberley Obituary

Caroline B. Kimberley, 87, of East Granby, passed away at St. Francis Hospital on Monday (November 25, 2013) with her two children by her side. She was born in Secaucus, New Jersey on April 17, 1926, daughter of the late William Cook and Lilly (Mehnert) Cook. Caroline was predeceased by her beloved husband of 64 years, John "Jack" A. Kimberley in 2010. She met Jack when she was walking down the corridor at Wright Aero in New Jersey; he wouldn't let her pass until she agreed to go on a date with him. Caroline resided in East Granby for over 51 years where she was a faithful member of Copper Hill United Methodist Church where she was organist for many years. Family was everything to her. For over 40 years she and Jack would host a July 4th family reunion and the same group would gather again on New Year's Eve. A wonderful homemaker, wife and mother, Caroline also volunteered her time to many organizations including Meals-on-Wheels, the East Granby Library, Holly Hill Nursing Home, cooking and working at the church suppers and making crafts along with Jack for the church bazaar. Every February for almost 35 years they could be seen gathering sap along Newgate Road which they would then boil down in their sugar shack in the back yard. The highly prized syrup was shared with many family and friends. Caroline leaves two children, Meredith I. "Merry" Kimberley of East Granby and Dr. Jay R. Kimberley and his wife Janie of Worcester, Vermont; two grandsons, Tyler Kimberley and his significant other Jolin Hastings of Montpelier, Vermont and Reed Kimberley and his significant other Lora Stridsberg and their son William of Montpelier, Vermont; and a brother, Harold Cook and his wife Helen of Totowa, New Jersey and a sister, Roselyn Kay and her husband George of Fryeburg, Maine. She also leaves a sister-in-law, Carol Cook of Wayne, New Jersey, nine nieces and nephews, and a host of cousins and extended family. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the Copper Hill United Methodist Church, 27 Copper Hill Road, East Granby with private burial to be held at a later date. Her arrangements have been entrusted to the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home of Granby. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to the Copper Hill UMC Discretionary Fund, PO Box 422, East Granby, CT 06026. Merri & Jay, So sorry to hear of your mother's passing. Your folks were always so welcoming of us ruffians, we sure spent a lot of time there. I'll always remember Willie calling Jay for chow! You are in my thoughts.

Caroline was a true lady and a beautiful soul. I am sure she has a special place in heaven, with Jack by her side. I hope Merry and Jay and the entire family find comfort in their strong family memories.

I have only had the privilege of knowing Caroline for a few months, but I have very much appreciated her faithful presence, encouraging words, and cheerful greetings on Sunday mornings. Pastor Kelvin
