Carolyn K. Payne

Carolyn K. Payne, 81, of Windsor, CT, formerly of Avon, CT, passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Kimberly Hall. Carolyn was born January 13, 1932 in Portland, Maine. She is the daughter of the late Carl and Leah Karstensen. She was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Herb. She attended Westbrook High School in Westbrook, Maine, and graduated from Gorham State Teachers College with a bachelor's degree. Carolyn also obtained a master's degree from The University of Maine. Carolyn was an elementary school teacher in Portland, Maine for one year and then in Bloomfield, CT for twenty-five years. Carolyn loved flower gardening, cats, and traveling. Carolyn and Herb lived in Simsbury, CT for many years. In retirement, Carolyn and Herb moved from Simsbury, CT to Ashville, NC and then to Fort Myers, FL. She leaves a sister, Shirley Allgrove, of West Hartford, CT and a brother, Ted Karstensen of Windsor, CT; and numerous nieces and nephews. There are no calling hours. Services are private at the family's request. Carmon Funeral Home in Windsor has care of arrangements. A memorial donation in her name may be made to Christ the King Lutheran Church, 465 Park Avenue, Windsor, CT 06095.
