Carrie Carbone Obituary

Carrie Arminta (Conklin) Carbone, 88, of Vernon, beloved wife of 65 years to the late Angelo F. Carbone, Sr., passed peacefully at her home Monday, December 16, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. Known affectionately as "Arma" by family and long-time friends, she is the most loving, kind, selfless, and family-oriented individual that God ever created. Her love for her family - and her family's love for her - knows no bounds. Born on February 26, 1925, in Verplanck, NY, Arma is the daughter of Frank R. Conklin, Sr. and Ethel M. (Cole) Conklin. Arma loves children, especially her own, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren. Most of the work she did outside the home was centered around kids, and enabled her to spend more time with her own children. Some of the positions that she held included being the playground monitor at the local elementary school, working for the town recreation department and becoming one of its directors, as well as directing several summer youth camps. When her children were grown, she became a supervisor at a home for under-privileged kids.To say that Arma enjoys cooking would be a massive understatement. Her holiday feasts, in particular, are legendary. The quantity and variety of food that she would prepare was topped only by its quality. Her family, extended family, and friends are the well-satiated benefactors of her tremendous culinary skills. An outstanding athlete in her youth, Arma was selected to represent her high school during numerous "play days" - in the early year's of girls' interscholastic sports competition - winning many awards. In addition, she once formed a women's softball team that competed against other women's clubs, and earned the nickname "Slugger" for her prowess at the plate. Arma is survived by her children, Angelo and his wife Laura (Desharnais) Carbone, Jr. of Pleasant Valley, NY, Aaron and his wife Patti (McCaul) Carbone of South Windsor, Arlene Carbone-Brown of Laurel, MD; grandchildren Cristi (Carbone) Burnham and her husband Brett Burnham, Jason and his wife Katy (Kleis) Carbone, Aranda Brown, Sarah Carbone, Joe Carbone and Matt Carbone; great-grandchildren Mailon, Jude and Calli Burnham. She adores her family, and her family adores her. We are all better people because she is a part of our lives. Now Heaven is a better place, where Mom and Dad - and some day all of us - will be "Together Forever". Her family will receive friends on Friday, December 20, 2013, from 4-7 p.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2013, 1:30 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Wapping Cemetery, South Windsor. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. www.stjude.org Please visit us at www.carmonfuneralhome.com for online condolences.
