Catherine GECEWICZ Obituary
GECEWICZ, Catherine Anne (Jasion)
Catherine Anne (Jasion) Gecewicz, 93, of Middletown wife of the late Stanley Gecewicz and Thaddeus A. Ferenc, Sr., died Thursday at Middlesex Hospital. She was born in Middletown the daughter of the late John and Lucy (Smagacz) Jasion. Catherine's greatest passion was raising and caring for her large family. She was a Communicant of Saint Mary of Czestochowa, member of Polish Auxiliary, Senior Club and Ladies Guild of St. Mary's. She had an early love of sports were Fred Post of the Middletown Press quoted "she was the greatest all around female athlete in the city's history" when she played in the South End at Otis Playground. On October 20, 2000 she received the City of Middletown Mayors Proclamation. She is survived by three sons, Stanley (Gus) Gecewicz, Jr. of Middletown, Ronald Gecewicz and his Wife Margo of Wallingford, John Gecewicz and his wife Elizabeth of New York City; and five daughters, Lucille Gecewicz of Scottsdale AZ., Julie D'Orio and her husband Jay of Cromwell, Marcia Vecca and her husband Tony of East Hampton, Donna Gecewicz of Middletown, Laura Blicharz and her husband Lester of East Hartford; ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews. Catherine was predeceased by a son, Thaddeus A. Ferenc, Jr.; five brothers, Joseph, Stanley, Anthony, Louis and Jacob Jasion. Our family would like to thank Drs. Fales, Gallo, Peters and staff for all the care and support. A special thanks to nurse Darlene Hardy and Lucy Krzywy companion and friend.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:45 a.m. from the Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown followed by an 10:30 a.m. Funeral Liturgy in St. Mary of Czestochowa Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the Biega Funeral Home Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Mary of Czestochowa Church, 79 South Main Street Middletown, CT 06457. Donna- Saddened to hear of your mom's passing. I know she received the very best care and love from you for a very long while before she went home to be with the Lord. You honored her each and every day by your constant presence and loving attention. Your unselfish devotion to her each and every day was probably the main reason why her last days especially were peaceful. She knew you were always there to count on. Please accept my condolescences on the loss of your Mom. She was truly blessed by having such a wonderful, caring and loving family. You all have been there for your Mom and were always there to care for her. I remember seeing all of you in church this past year where she was in her wheelchair and had to be taken home by you because she had a problem that needed to be fixed at the time. All of you did what was necessary to care for her. She was blessed by such a loving family. May she be at peace.

She was one of a very few mothers (my opinion) who had so much love and caring, especially in the last years of her life, she was able to stay at home until her last hours.
