Chester Wisniewski Obituary

Chester A. Wisniewski, DMD, 93, long time West Hartford resident, died Thursday, (November 14, 2013) at Hartford Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Antolena "Lee" (Wegrzyn) Wisniewski. Born in Hartford, the son of the late Stanley and Helen Wisniewski, Chester graduated Hartford Public High School, Class of 1937. He went on to Colby College, Waterville, ME and graduated from Tufts Dental School in 1943. During World War II, he was a Navy Senior Lieutenant in the Dental Corps, serving with the Marines (MAG 31) in the South Pacific. After the war, Dr. Wisniewski started his dental practice in downtown Hartford, retiring in 2008 after 60 years. He was a member of the ADA, the CT State Dental Association, the Hartford Dental Association, and the New England Dental Society. Proud moments in his life include giving the valedictorian speech for the Lawrence Street grammar school graduation at the Bushnell Memorial, running anchorman for the track relay race at the Broad Street Armory, and delivering telegrams for Western Union to pay for a bicycle. Chester played the banjo in polka bands with his brothers, Gene and Edward, and in a banjo trio that performed during the Depression. He played at CCC camps throughout Connecticut, as well as on the amateur hour at the Lyric Theater and as background music on WTIC radio. He had a fondness for polka and country music his whole life. He loved history, travel, and enjoyed picnics with family and relatives. He was an avid bowler and loved the Red Sox and UConn Women's Basketball. Besides Lee, his wife of 66 years, he leaves his son, Dr. Glenn A. Wisniewski of West Hartford; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Edward and Gene. Funeral services will be Monday, November 18, 2013 with a procession at 9:15 a.m. from the Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 136 South Main Street, West Hartford followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. at the Church of Saint Timothy, 1116 North Main Street, West Hartford. Dear Mrs.Wisniewski,
I was a patient for 40+ yrs. I had such respect for Dr.Wish. He was kind, dedicated and humble. I was there so much at one point, I started calling him Dad!! I was so nervous each visit, but with his gentle manner and that trusty radio playing, my fears were eased. My whole family listened to all the polkas the Wisniewski's performed, so infact Dr.Wish was like part of my family. Please know I'm thinking of you Mrs.Wisniewski. You & the Doctor will always be in my prayers.
God Bless, Love,
Barbara(Olander)Junokas
