GOBOURNE, Clarance Albert
Clarance Albert Gobourne, 95, of Windsor, beloved husband for 60 years of Elsa (Thorpe) Gobourne, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, (July 10, 2013) at his home. Born in Guys Hill, St. Mary, Jamaica, West Indies on Dec. 3, 1917, son of the late Reginald and Regina Gobourne, he was raised in Jamaica by his aunt, Vie Gobourne, and had lived in Hartford and Bloomfield before moving to Windsor over 45 years ago. Clarance worked as a postal clerk and then as a supervisor at the United States Post Office in Hartford. He retired after over 40 years of service to the postal service and he received many commendations from his co-workers and from the Postmaster General. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, playing checkers and dominoes, and completing crossword puzzles. Clarance was very proud of his home in Windsor and during the summer he and his wife Elsa would spend countless hours maintaining the flower and vegetable gardens around their home. He was an active member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Windsor where he sang in the Men's Choir and also volunteered in many other capacities around the church. Besides his wife Elsa, he leaves two daughters, Dorothy Smith and her husband William of Windsor, and Patricia Razz and her husband John of Columbia, SC; three grandchildren, Ebboni Smith of Windsor, TSGT John Razz, III, USAF and his wife Jennifer of Las Vegas, NV, and Jazmine Razz of Columbia, SC; five great-grandchildren, Sahara, Amarisse, Kaileana, Taylor, and Adriann; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by a sister, Dr. Daphney Harvey.
His family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 17, 10-11 a.m., followed by a Homegoing Service, 11 a.m., at Hopewell Baptist Church, 280 Windsor Ave., Windsor. Entombment will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Mausoleum, Bloomfield. Memorial donations may be made to the Hopewell Baptist Church, 280 Windsor Ave., Windsor, CT 06095.
