GALLAGHER, Clifford John Sr.
Clifford John Gallagher Sr. departed this world on May 23, 2013, after a brief illness. Born to the late Nora and Tony Gallagher on May 26, 1929, in Bridgeport, he graduated from Bassick High School in 1948 and the University of Bridgeport in 1953. After college, he was drafted into the Army. Before leaving for Fort Hood, TX, he married Janice Bergmark on August 22, 1953. After serving in the military, he returned to Bridgeport and began a career in sales of fine foods. He and Janice started a family and moved to Glastonbury in 1966. Besides his love of family, Cliff had a passion for playing golf, reading, visiting New York City, and swimming. To those who knew him, Cliff's sense of humor was legendary. His Irish wit brought much amusement. More than anything, he will be remembered as a dedicated family man. He provided us with everything we needed and many things we wanted, like tickets to see the Red Sox and vacations at Cape Cod. As for his best friend and soul mate Janice, he never waivered in his devotion to her. Keeping her happy was his aim and for nearly 60 years, he succeeded. Besides his parents he is predeceased by his brothers Bob and Tom. He is survived by Janice, their children Clifford Jr. of North Haven; John and his wife, Kathleen Hurley and their daughter Nora, of Hinesburg, VT; Ellen Howlett and her husband Rob of Glastonbury, and their children Sarah and her fiance Vinny Sullivan of Middletown, Robbie and Rachel of Glastonbury. He is also survived by a brother, Ray as well as sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. Perhaps the greatest gift that Cliff was given was the birth of his great-grandchild, Adrianna, born seven months ago to Sarah and Vinny.
A memorial service will take place at the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury, CT at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29 followed by an internment with military honors at Green Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday, May 28 from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. For online condolences, please visit www.mulryanfh.com

Cliff, John and Ellen, Your dad was a wonderful man. Always polite and a real gentleman. I will never forget the days growing up on Curtis road, across the street. The cookouts, swimming in your pool, the baseball games. I am so sorry for your loss.
