CURRIE, Cornelius Joseph
Cornelius Joseph "Neal" Currie, 84, of Avon and Deerfield Beach, FL, formerly of Farmington, beloved husband of Carmella (Petrozza) Currie, passed away peacefully Tuesday, (April 2). Born in Unionville, March 1, 1929, son of the late Harold and Evelyn (Gagnon) Currie. Neal received his Bachelor's degree in Business from the University of Hartford. Prior to retiring, he was the Senior Vice President at Hartford National Bank for 40 years. He was a United States Air Force veteran. Neal was involved with Habitat for Humanity for many years, and served on the Town Council in Farmington during the 1970's. Neal was a member of UNICO in Farmington where he was past President and received the Ella Grasso Award. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, Uncas Council #32 in Unionville and was a lifetime communicant at the Church of St. Mary Star of the Sea. Besides his wife; Neal is survived by his three children, Douglas T. Currie and his wife Jacqueline of Bow, NH, Maryellen Currie-Leathe and her husband Sherman D. of Simsbury, and Neal J. Currie of Gloucester, MA; his sister, Helen Summa of Waterbury; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Debra Ann Currie.
Friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Rt. 4, Unionville on Friday, Apr. 5, from 5-8 p.m. Funeral procession from The Ahern Funeral Home will be Saturday, Apr. 6, at 11:15 a.m. followed by the Funeral Liturgy in the Church of St. Mary Star of the Sea, Unionville at 12 p.m. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Avon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Farmington Valley VNA, Hospice Program, 8 Old Mill Lane, Simsbury, CT 06070 or to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, CT Chapter, 321 Research Parkway, Suite 212, Meriden, CT 06450. So sorry for your loss. Neal was a great guy and brightened up RMC's office.
He will be grealtly missed.
