Cynthia Cowles Obituary

Cynthia Jane Cowles, 84, cherished sister, aunt and friend, died peacefully on Friday, January 17, 2014. Born August 17, 1929, she lived in her family's historical homestead in East Granby. Oldest of nine children, Cynthia kept busy helping to care for her younger siblings. At age 48, she had the wonderful opportunity to become a part of the Kennedy Center in Bridgeport. She found her independence and for several years was able to live in her own apartment. After retiring, she moved to Connors Lane assisted living home in Stratford. Cynthia loved people and going on outings. She was a bowler and participated in the Special Olympics for several years, and also loved to knit and make jig saw puzzles. Cynthia leaves behind her brothers, Robert Cowles of PA, Rollin Cowles and wife Sally of East Granby, CT, Dexter Cowles and wife Lorrie of FL, and her sisters, Deborah Harriman and her husband Ed of VA, Marcia Sung and her husband Philip of East Granby, and Myra Doughney of East Granby, as well as 19 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Albert and Doris Cowles and her sisters, Phyllis Grover and Patricia Cowles. She also leaves behind her many friends from both the Kennedy Center and the Connors Lane Group home, all of whom Cynthia considered her family. A memorial service will be held at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury, CT, on Tuesday, January 28th at 1:00 PM. A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. In remembrance of Cynthia Cowles, those who wish may make contributions to The Kennedy Center Inc., 2440 Reservoir Ave., Trumbull, CT 06611. we will miss our dear cynthia. she was a bright light at family gatherings and always willing to help with cooking and cleanup, but her favorite was taking care of the babies. she set a good example of not complaining and just getting it done, no matter what. a brave soul who inspired us all. we will miss you dearly.
