Donald F. D'EFEMIA Sr. Obituary

D'EFEMIA, Donald F. Sr.

Donald F. D'Efemia, Sr., 82, of Rocky Hill passed away on Sunday (February 24, 2013) at Maple View Manor after a brief illness. Born in Hartford on March 24, 1930, he was the son of the late Rocco D. D'Efemia and Mary (Motola) D'Efemia. Donald graduated from Weaver High School with the class of 1949 and dedicated many years of his youth playing baseball in various leagues, including the Hartford Twilight League where he held many fond memories and made many lifelong friends. He was a proud veteran of the United States Marines Corps, serving during the Korean War era. Donald worked in several Hartford factories, including 17 years at the Fuller Brush Co. before graduating from Hillyer College (University of Hartford) and receiving a graduate degree in education. In 1967, he started a teaching career in Hartford and retired as principal of Burr School in 1992. He truly loved teaching and all children and always encouraged everyone to be the best they could be. Donald was also a devout Catholic and a Eucharistic Minister at the Church of the Incarnation in Wethersfield. He was a founding member of the Mary Heart Crusaders, a Catholic lay organization devoted to love and adoration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the Blessed Mother, Golden Lady of Happiness. Donald is survived by his two sons, Donald F. D'Efemia, Jr. and James R. D'Efemia and a grandson, Todd J. D'Efemia, all of East Hartford; his brother, Robert J. D'Efemia of Wethersfield and a sister, Lorrainne Quellette of Southington, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins whom he thought the world of. Donald was predeceased by his former wife, Audrey Pollard Beebe. He was a true leader in life and will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him. His family would like to thank all the staff and residents of Maple View Manor for making his final days peaceful and pleasant. We would like to especially thank all the dedicated nurse's aides for their sensitivity and professionalism with hearts of gold, and for treating Donald as though he was part of their own family.
Funeral services will begin on Thursday at 9 a.m. from the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Incarnation, 544 Prospect St., Wethersfield. Burial will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
