Doris Carlson Obituary



Doris (Emanuelson) Carlson, 88, of Farmington, died peacefully on November 17, 2013. She was the beloved wife of the late Harold R. Carlson for 66 years. She was born on August 26, 1925, the only child of the late Carl and Martha (Swanberg) Emanuelson. She was raised in West Hartford, graduated from Hall High School, and was employed briefly by the Connecticut Mutual Insurance Company. Doris was a wonderful homemaker, cook, and seamstress. She was a founding member of her Sewing Club for 65 years and enjoyed gardening, just loved dogs and was an avid UConn Womens Basketball fan. Doris was a lifelong member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, Hartford, and was active with the Swedish Relief Society. In retirement, Doris and Harold traveled extensively throughout the United States in their Airstream camper. Doris considered the best part of her life to be her almost lifelong relationship with her husband, Harold. He was "the joy of her life". Doris leaves behind her beloved Goddaughter, Sandra Colpitts of Newington, her beloved daughter figures, Barbara Daley of Hillsboro, NH, and Susan Johnson of Farmington, and many friends and cousins. A special thank you to the staff of Amberwoods of Farmington for their compassionate care of Doris. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 22, 2013, at 11 a.m., at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 311 Capitol Ave., Hartford. Following the service, there will be Fellowship and visitation at the church. She will be laid to rest privately next to Harold in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. Memorial donations may be made to Emanuel Lutheran Church, 311 Capitol Ave., Hartford, CT 06106. Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington is serving the family.
