BRANSFIELD, Dorothy Mae (Cameron)
Dorothy Mae (Cameron) Bransfield, 92, widow of Paul J. Bransfield, died July 1, 2013. She was an alumna of Woodrow Wilson High School and a lifelong resident of Middletown. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Jennie (Maynard) and George Cameron, by brothers George and William Cameron, by her sister Eva Young, and by grandson Dana Bransfield. She is survived by her three sons, James of Middletown, Paul "Cam" of Torrington, and Douglas and his wife Karen of Cromwell. She is further survived by a brother Clarence Cameron and his wife Margaret of Florida and by sisters-in-law Marion Mellen and Marjorie Newcombe, also of Florida. She is also survived by grandson Christopher Bransfield and his wife Megan and their children, Dorothy's great-grandchildren Clara and Henry of Massachusetts, and grandson Brian Bransfield and his partner Heather Barrett, and their children, Dorothy's great-grandchildren Aysa, Jacob and Ethan of Manchester. Dorothy is also survived by several nieces who provided love, friendship and caring for many years. These include Maryann Cameron of East Hampton, Judith Vaughn and Sally Mello of Virginia, Kathy Drajewicz of Haddam, Jeanne Morris of Florida, Barbra Rogers of Middletown, and Shirley Newcomb and Josephine Cameron of Middletown. She is further survived by many other caring relatives and dear friends. Dorothy was a big baseball fan, particularly of the Boston Red Sox. She was a supporter of local schools, especially Woodrow Wilson Middle School and Middletown High School and the MHS baseball program. She enjoyed watching the video of Mercy High's Class LL basketball championship, and loved golf and rooted for Tiger Woods. She especially enjoyed Middletown American Legion Baseball and held a season ticket for many years.
Calling hours will be Friday, July 5, from 6-8 p.m. at the Coughlin-Lastrina Funeral Home on High St. from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, July 6, at 10 a.m. followed by interment next to her husband in Pine Grove Cemetery on South Main St.. Fr. Greg Galvin, former Chaplain at Xavier High School, will officiate. The family will be grateful for donations memorializing Dorothy's life to organizations she held dear such as the Middletown American Legion Baseball program at Bernie O'Rourke Drive, the Middletown High School Booster Club at 200 LaRosa Lane, the Tommy Fund for Childhood Cancer at Yale-New Haven Hospital, York St., New Haven, and the Southern Poverty Law Center of 400 Washington Ave., Montgomery, AL, 36104, which fights organized hate groups in America.
