Dorothy CROWE Obituary

Dorothy Mae (Dunham) Crowe, 94, of Unionville peacefully entered into eternal life on November 15, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. Born January 28, 1919 in Hartford, CT to George McKinley Dunham and Bertha (Ensminger) Dunham, she graduated from Hudson High School, NY and graduated in 1940 from the New Britain General Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. She was lovingly known as the "Sergeant" by all of her students in the LPN program. She was the beloved wife of Thomas Higgins Crowe who she met through her Uncle Arthur who told him his niece wanted someone to go dancing with and they had been dancing ever since. They married on January 23, 1943 at St. Mary's Church, Unionville and lived in Broad Brook, CT after Thomas completed his service duty, built their house in Unionville and began their family of five. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Thomas, son, Michael and daughter-in-law, Sandra Crowe. She leaves behind her brother, Raymond G. Dunham (Jeanette Stewart) of Lakeland, FL and cousin, Beverly Amberlock (Farmington) and her devoted children, Dottie Graves (West Hartford), Thomas (Southington), Richard (Kensington), and Tim (Donna, Burlington). She also leaves behind the joys of her life, her eight grandchildren: Kristin (Vince) Gilbey (Avon); Kevin (Christie) Graves of Pittsburgh, PA; Kelly (Luke) Albrecht of Newtown; Michelle (Brendan) Bartley of Milton, MA; Jennifer (Colin) McLaughlin (West River, MD); Michael Crowe (Boston, MA); Nicolette Crowe (Burlington) and Tyler Crowe (Winsted) and ten great-grandchildren: Megan Elizabeth and Braden Michael Gilbey; Asher Betten Graves; Rachael Mae, Kyle Thomas and Corinne Elizabeth Albrecht; Zander Michael and Bode Crowe Bartley; Teaghan Sandra McLaughlin; Sawyer Daniel Chartier. She was an avid knitter and reader and followed the UConn basketball teams. The family would like to thank Dr. Richard Edwards, Dr. Charles Graber and Dr. Satesh Singh for their care, and the devoted and compassionate caregivers at The Reservoir in West Hartford. Family and friends are invited to celebrate the life of our Mom/Grandma/Great-Grandma on Monday, November 25, 2013. Calling hours at Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main Street, Unionville are 9:00 - 10:30 AM followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Star of the Sea Church and burial at St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to the Sandy "Ma" Crowe Scholarship C/O Berlin Upbeat, Berlin High School, 130 Patterson Way, Berlin, CT 06037.
