Dorothy Mattila Obituary

Dorothy (Bokis) Mattila, 91, of Avon passed away on Sunday (December 29, 2013) after a brief illness. Dorothy was the only daughter of the late Elizabeth and Joseph Bokis. She was born in 1922 and was raised in Morgantown, WV. She moved to New York City, NY and became an editor for AT&T Bell Labs. In New York, she met the love of her life, her husband, the late Paul Mattila to whom she was married for 45 years. A job transfer brought them to Connecticut, living in Fairfield and then Simsbury. Dorothy loved working with her hands creating beautiful hooked rugs, crocheted rugs, and many clothing items. She was active in the Simsbury Women's Club and looked forward to the monthly luncheons of the H.W. Poole Associates. She is survived by her daughter, Paula (Mattila) Baczyk and her husband Brian; and her beloved grandchildren, Emily and Peter Baczyk; along with several grandnieces and grandnephews. Relatives and friends are invited to participate in a celebration of remembrance on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Rd., Avon. Inurnment will follow in the Sycamore Mausoleum in Simsbury Cemetery. The family would like to thank Cherry Brook Health Care for their care and compassion over the last year. Memorial donations may be made to the Kingswood Oxford School, for the Robotics Team care of Debby Hyde, 170 Kingswood Rd., West Hartford, CT 06119.
