GUARCO, Edward John
Edward John Guarco, 60, of Granby, beloved husband for 38 years of Barbara (Moulton) Guarco, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, (October 30, 2013) at Hartford Hospital. Born in Hartford on April 30, 1953, son of the late Alessio L. and Rosetta C. (Ratti) Guarco, he was a graduate of Granby High School, Class of 1971 and was a lifelong resident of Granby. After graduating from high school, Edward continued his education at the Morse School of Business while working at State Line Oil, a family owned business in Granby. Edward loved work and had been actively involved at State Line Oil for over 45 years and was currently serving as the company's Vice President. In addition, Ed was also a co-owner of Route 10 Tire in Granby. As a lifelong resident of Granby, Edward was active in many groups, clubs, and associations. He was a past president of the Granby Chamber of Commerce, a past board member of the Granby Ambulance Association, a longtime member of the Granby Golf League, and was currently serving as a member of the Granby Development Committee. Having worked in the oil business since he was in high school, Edward was also active in the Connecticut Energy Marketers Association and was currently serving as the Hartford Chapter President and was a former President of the Independent Connecticut Petroleum Association. In addition to his civic involvement, Ed served on the Board of Directors of Simsbury Bank for many years. In his spare time, he loved the great outdoors. Ed enjoyed kayaking, snowshoeing, fishing, downhill and cross-country skiing, taking walks through the woods, and riding his motorcycle and bicycle. He also liked photographing the beauty that he saw in nature and took many pictures that he enjoyed sharing with his family and friends. Most of all, he will be remembered as a family man who loved to be with his wife, daughter, granddaughters, and his extended family. Ed took great pleasure in the simple things in life, including good food, good conversation, and time spent with those that he loved. His family and friends will miss his easy going nature, his hospitality, and his love of entertaining, especially at his annual Fourth of July party and fireworks display. Besides his wife Barbara, he leaves a daughter, Catherine Ann Schantz and her husband Cory of Granby; two granddaughters whom he cherished, Madison and Camryn Schantz; a brother, David A. Guarco and his wife Julie of Granby; his father-in-law, Frank N. Moulton of Lake Royal, NC; a sister-in-law, Susan Casassa and her significant other, Robert Sparks of Granby; a niece, Caitlin Sullivan and her husband Shaun of East Hartland; a nephew, Dylan Casassa of Simsbury; his Golden Retriever Comet; an uncle, aunts and cousins.
