Edward Sayers Obituary



Edward Thomas Sayers, 87, of Durham, husband of Evelyn (Aiguier) Sayers, passed away on Wednesday, (December 11, 2013) at Middlesex Hospital. Born in East Hartford, he was the son of the late Martin and Elizabeth (Grandon) Sayers. Ed lived in Durham for twenty seven years and was a member of Notre Dame Church. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Navy on a minesweeper in the Pacific. He worked for The Phoenix and Allstate Insurance Company for over thirty five years. Ed liked to travel with his wife and enjoyed riding his motorcycle. Along with his wife, he is survived by three sons, Tom Sayers and his wife, Janet of Tolland, Gary Sayers and his wife, Pam of Fort Fairfield, ME and Dave Sayers and his wife, Denise of Coeur D'Alene, ID; four stepsons, Joseph Fappiano of Rochester, NY, Richard Fappiano and his wife, Carolyn of Fredericksburg, VA, Robert Fappiano and his wife, Terry of Great Meadows, NJ and William Fappiano and his wife, Marilyn of East Haven; a stepdaughter, Lori Fappiano of Middletown; his sister, Mary Dunn of Newton, MA; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, December 17 at 10 a.m. at Notre Dame Church in Durham. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery in North Haven where full military honors will be accorded. Friends may call on Tuesday morning from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown. In lieu of flowers, friends may make donations in Ed's memory to Notre Dame Church, 272 Main Street, Durham, CT 06422 or The American Cancer Society, 825 Brook Street, I-91 Tech Center, Rocky Hill, CT 06067-3045. My deepest sympathies go out to Ed's family as they will miss him greatly. My husband Dave has told me so much about him, he sounded like an amazing father-in-law. I'm so sorry I never met him, though he lives on through Dave and his brothers. Hold each other, you dad is in paradise with Jesus!

If it were not for the wonderful Ed Sayers, I would never know my heritage. My father Robert Grandon Peterson, was his cousin. He graciously introduced me to his sister Mary Dunn and I will be eternally grateful to this sweet man. Love you Ed may you RIP Ginnie DeLorenzo
