DEWEY, Elizabeth A.
Elizabeth A. Dewey, 92, of South Windsor, died peacefully in her home on Wednesday, (October 9, 2013). Elizabeth was predeceased by her loving husband of 66 years, Charles W. Dewey, Jr., her parents, Harriett S. Abbe and Edward V. Abbe, her brother Edward Abbe and sister Ruth Dorey. Elizabeth is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Joel Zimmerman, of South Windsor and her son and daughter-in-law Russell Dewey and Jennifer Biehl of Pueblo West, CO; her sister Gladys A. Daley; four grand-daughters, Kristen Miner (Jennifer), Rebecca Stewart (Sean), Andrea Cleary (Justin), and Jennifer Dewey; and five great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Matthew, Aiden, Tommy, and Teegan. Elizabeth was born in Coventry on December 14, 1920 and lived primarily in South Windsor her entire life. She attended South Windsor public schools and the Hartford Secretarial School, from which she graduated in 1940. Elizabeth was a dedicated member of Wapping Community Church for over 70 years, having served as Church School Superintendent from 1976 - 1990. Elizabeth was a talented organist and taught organ in young musician's homes for many years. Her hobbies included scrapbooking, gardening, sewing and quilting. She was a long-time member of the Wood Memorial Library Quilters Group. The family would like to extend a special and personal thanks to Elizabeth's devoted caregivers: Sheila Arnone, Fran Banas, Kim Messier, and Talana (Tee) Watkins; all of whom lovingly made Elizabeth's life more comfortable and enjoyable to the end.
Elizabeth's family will receive friends on Friday, October 11, 2013 from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Wapping Community Church, 1790 Ellington Road, South Windsor, followed by a burial ceremony at Center Cemetery in South Windsor.
