Elizabeth FOXMAN Obituary

Elizabeth (Bess) Ruth (Traina) Foxman, of West Hartford, CT and East Harwich, MA, died January 4, 2014. She was the loving wife of Norman Foxman for 54 years, and devoted mother of Ruth Foxman of Bloomfield, CT and Philip and his wife Jennifer Foxman of Meadville, PA. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Hannah, Jonah, Nathan, and Grace Foxman, as well as a sister, Margaret (Peg) Hall of Roseville, CA. Born and raised in Jersey City, NJ, Bess was the youngest of three daughters of the late Anne and S. Thomas Traina. She was pre-deceased by one sister, Helen Jean Traina. A graduate of Douglass College (Rutgers University), she started her career as a teacher of English. After her marriage she held a variety of administrative positions in Boston and the Hartford area, the last being at The Counseling Center at Hartford College for Women (University of Hartford), until her retirement in 1997. Bess enjoyed several volunteer opportunities in her retirement, working at Foodshare, broadcasting for the visually impaired at CRIS Radio, and driving in the Medical Escort program of the Town of West Hartford. She was a faithful blood donor at the Red Cross for many years, donating more than 12 gallons. She was a founder and enthusiastic member of a neighborhood book group, which flourished for more than 30 years. Calling hours will be Wednesday, January 8, 2014 from 4-6 p.m. at Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Avenue, Windsor, CT. The burial will be private. A celebration of Bess' life will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Foodshare, 450 Woodland Avenue, Bloomfield, CT 06002, or to a charity of the donor's choice. Ruth, Norm & family- I am so very sorry to learn of Bess' passing. Ruth thanks so much for letting me know. Bess was a true friend and we laughed through many lunches after her volunteer days were done. She had a curiosity about the world, life, issues of the day, everything but Facebook- which I could never talk her into. So sorry for the loss of a dear woman.

Norman & Ruth, My heartfelt sympathies for the loss of Bess, your wife and mother. She was a giving person who I've had the pleasure of knowing. My thoughts are with you both. Janice (Foodshare)
