Emma Louise (Cowart) Smith, 83, of Manchester, beloved wife of the late Lloyd A. Smith, died peacefully, Sunday January 12, 2014 at Vernon Manor with her family at her side. Emma was born May 4, 1930 in Atlanta, GA., daughter of the late Benjamin & Julibelle (Fields) Cowart. Prior to her retirement she had worked in the housekeeping dept at Kimberly Hall in Windsor for many years. Mrs. Smith is survived by her nieces and nephew, Mary Ann Spellman of Manchester, Thomas H. Cowart of East Hartford, Elizabeth R. Harrison of Ellington, Kathleen L. Chandler of Winsted and numerous grand nieces and grand nephews. Emma was predeceased by two brothers, Jerry Lee Cowart and Charles H. Cowart, nephew Casey Cowart, niece Marie Cowart, grand niece Evie Marie Cowart and nephew Ross Courtland Chandler. Funeral services will be held Tuesday January 21, 2014 at 7:00 PM at the Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 PM until the time of the service. Burial will be private in the Highland Memorial Park Cemetery in Johnston, RI. Memorial donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, 35 Cold Springs, Rd., Rocky Hill, CT. 06067-3102.
