LANDI, Erminio

Erminio Landi, age 99 1/2, of Windsor, passed away at home on October 5, 2013. He was born in Torrington on April 4, 1914 and was the son of Emilio and Antonia (Sica) Landi from Giffoni, Salerno, Italy. Erminio also lived in Brooklyn, NY until he was seven when his parents returned to Italy to raise their family. While in Italy he became an apprenticed barber and also served as a firefighter in Rome. He remained in Italy until 1954 and returned to his native land with his wife and five children. Erminio was proud to be a barber and practiced his profession at a number of Hartford hotels in the 60's. He was also an excellent baker and loved to cook. The kitchen was totally his domain and he continued to make all the daily meals in the Italian tradition up to the Sunday prior to his death. His famous Italian sauce was a special treat that was always enjoyed at weekly Sunday dinners. Erminio enjoyed tinkering around the yard fixing and building things and tending his vegetable garden. He loved animals and had a special devotion to his cat, Gray, who was his playful, enjoyable companion and always by his side. He is survived by his wife, Concetta (Rachiele-Leuzzi); three daughters, Annette Luther of South Windsor, Claire Janowski of Vernon, Emma LaChance and her husband Richard of Palm Coast, FL; two sons, Claudio Landi of Windsor, Sal Landi and his wife Patty of New Hampshire; six grandchildren, Mark and Frank Pascuccio of South Windsor, Lisa Grillo and her husband Joe of Glastonbury, Karen Pascuccio of Florida, Eric Janowski of Denver and David Janowski of Vernon; three great-grandchildren, Ashley, Gina and Olivia. He is predeceased by four brothers, William of Newington, Romolo of Torrington, Guerrino of Calabria, Italy, Umbrio of Salerno, Italy and two sisters, Laura Landi and Emma Mingo of Salerno, Italy.
Calling hours will be at the Rose Hill Funeral Home, 580 Elm Street, Rocky Hill, CT on Thursday, October 10, from 4-7 p.m. Burial will be private the following day. Flowers may be sent to Rose Hill Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Landi's memory may be sent to the CT Humane Society.
