FRIEND, Ernestine M.
Ernestine M. Friend passed away on October 25, 2013. Mrs. Friend was predeceased by her husband, Miner (Pete) Friend and a son, Jared. Ernestine was the daughter of Ethel and Edward Montie. She was born in Manchester in 1916 and attended Manchester schools. During World War II Ernestine joined the Red Cross and served in Hawaii where she met her husband, Pete. After the war, they were married in Manchester and moved to Westfield, Indiana. They moved to South Windsor in 1963, becoming active members of Wapping Community Church. She worked for many years at the Connecticut State Board of Parole. Mrs. Friend leaves her daughter, Jocelyn Welles, her son, Timothy Friend and his wife, Kathleen, her grandchildren, Franklin Welles Jr., Christopher Welles and his wife, Michelle, Shari Richard-Meyers and her husband, David, Danielle Kleczkowski and her husband, Andrew, Jared Friend and his wife, Ashley, Francis Tarasiewicz and William Friend. She also leaves ten great-grandchildren, Taylor, Chance and Sydney Welles, Nicole, A.J., Noah, D.J. and Jackson Kleczkowski, and Kaitlyn Innes and David Meyers Jr. The family gives their greatest thanks to the staff at Paradigm Healthcare. Their professionalism, kindness and caring were very much appreciated. They always made Ernestine comfortable and happy and became part of her family.
A memorial service will be held at Wapping Community Church, 1790 Ellington Road, South Windsor on Saturday, November 2, at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wapping Community Church. Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, South Windsor has care of arrangements.
