BERNSTEIN, Ethel Simkowitz
Ethel Simkowitz Bernstein, 99, of Avon, formerly of Fall River, MA, passed away November 4, 2013. For 68 years she was married to the love of her life, Herman who predeceased her in April, 2004. She is survived by her children, Diane and Larry Greenfield of West Hartford, CT and Leslie Bernstein of Fall River, MA and by her loving children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a kind, wonderful person who was dedicated to her family and friends. She inspired her children by example to live with style, grace and kindness. Her generosity was known by all who knew her. She was tender with the young, compassionate with the aged and sympathetic with the ill. Her warm soul and big heart will remain with all who knew and loved her. She was born in Philadelphia in 1914, the daughter of the late Louise and Max Simkowitz. For over 60 years, she along with her husband were owners of Louise's Bridal Shop and Louise's Women's Shop in Fall River, MA. She was a member of Congregation Beth El of Fall River, MA. The family wishes to thank everyone at Apple Health Care in Avon, CT for their kindness and wonderful care and to Helen Constantine her dear companion for her loving care, kindness and comfort.
Funeral Services will be held graveside at 12 noon on Thursday, November 7, 2013 in Temple Beth El Cemetery, 4561 North Main St., Fall River, MA 02720. A memorial period will be observed Thursday 6:45 to 9 p.m. and Friday 1 to 3:30 p.m., at the home of her children, Diane and Larry Greenfield, 17 Visgrove Lane, West Hartford, CT. Memorial contributions may be made to the "Play for a Cure" Breast Cancer Tournament, c/o Tumble Brook Country Club, Attn.: Denise Delaney, 176 Simsbury Road, Bloomfield, CT 06002 or The Mandell Jewish Community Center, 333 Bloomfield Ave., West Hartford, CT 06117.
