Garry Owen McCabe

1946 - 2014

Garry Owen McCabe, 67, of New Hartford died peacefully at home, Saturday January 4, 2014. Garry was born in Bristol,CT, on February 9, 1946 to the late Mary (O'Malley) and Owen J. McCabe. He was married in 1969 to Kathleen Newman, of Bristol. They have four children. Garry received a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Hartford, a BSB in General Engineering from Wentworth Institute, Boston, MA. In a career spanning more than 40 years, Garry was directly involved in the successful release of over 100 new products and holds patents in the areas of electronics, electromechanical and mechanical component and systems. Garry was currently employed as Executive VP at Magnatech LLC of East Granby, CT. Garry was avid fisherman his entire life, but his passion involved the restoration of a truly iconic American automobile: the Packard. Whenever he could steal the time, he would slip away to work on the Packard. Garry is survived by his wife of 44 years, Kathleen Newman and their four sons: Daniel, of Ann Arbor, MI; Michael, Gerald and Brendan McCabe of New Hartford. He also leaves two sisters Mary-Jane McCabe and her husband Michael Brett, of Northford, and Monica McCabe-Black and husband James C Black MD (deceased). He also leaves several cousins, nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Tuesday, January 14 at Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 5 Steele Road, New Hartford from 10 AM - 12 PM with a memorial service at noon.
