PETERS, Genevieve "Jean"
Genevieve "Jean" Peters died peacefully on Monday, (July 8, 2013) at Mansfield Center For Nursing. Born June 7, 1917 in Cleveland, OH, she grew up in East Hampton, MA where her father and uncle were farmers during the Depression. Jean and her husband Koste "Gus" Peters were longtime residents of Ellington, where they owned and operated a restaurant in nearby Rockville. Jean was a loving dedicated wife and mother. She was loyal and true friend to all that new her. Jean enjoyed golfing and bowling and spent many summers at Ellington Ridge C.C., where she and "Gus" were founding members. Her husband who passed away in 1986 and her daughter Donna Hatch predecease Jean. Her son Joe Peters and daughter-in-law Ursula Tracy Peters of Ashford, survive her, as well as her grandsons Michael Peters of Ashford and Gregory Peters of Ithaca, NY.
Jean will be interred next to her husband in Good Shepard Memorial Gardens in Ocala, FL. A private ceremony will be held at graveside. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Association P.O. Box 22718 - Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718. Arrangements were through Potter Funeral Home, Willimantic. When I volunteered at MCNR I had the pleasure of meeting Jean. I spent time with her weekly at the nursing home and always enjoyed her company. She was a wonderful woman and from what she shared with me, I can tell that she lived a very happy 96 years. Rest in peace Jean.
