TOPA, Genowefa "Jennie" (Sokolowski)
Genowefa "Jennie" (Sokolowski) Topa, 92, of New Britain passed away on Friday, (May 3, 2013) with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Topa. She was born in Middletown to the late Jozef and Rose (Bula) Sokolowski. She was a New Britain resident most of her life. Jennie was an active member of Holy Cross Church, making pierogis for church functions for many years. She resided at Worthington Manor in East Berlin for the last five years where she was given wonderful care and loved by all there. She was an avid bowler in the senior league with her sister Marie. Jennie was employed by Pratt and Whitney prior to her retirement. She is survived by her daughter, Gail Osakowicz and her husband Vinny of Kensington; her son Ronald Topa and his wife Jane of Bristol; three grandchildren David Topa and his wife Adrienne, Derek Osakowicz and Jenna Gosselin and her husband Jason; two great-grandchildren Nathan and Madelyn Topa. In addition, she leaves her sisters Marie Skwiot of New Britain, Stephanie Erickson of Middletown and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, Farmington Ave., New Britain. She will be laid to rest with her husband in Calvary Cemetery, Middletown. There are no calling hours. The Burritt Hill Funeral Home, 332 Burritt St., New Britain, is in charge of arrangements.
