Gloria A. (Kohl) Dougherty, 87, of Simsbury, beloved wife of the late Francis G. "Frank" Dougherty, died Sunday, December 15, 2013 at John Dempsey Hospital. She was born August 10, 1926 in the Bronx, NY, daughter of the late Peter Anthony and Anne Frances (Newman) Kohl and had lived in Goffstown, NH and Tariffville prior to moving to Simsbury over 50 years ago. Gloria was a graduate of the College of New Rochelle, Class of 1948, where she received her Bachelor of Arts in English. In addition to raising her family, Mrs. Dougherty was an Administrator at the Spiritual Life Center in Bloomfield for many years. She was an active member of St. Mary's Church in Simsbury, serving as Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist and was a member of the Rosary Guild. Gloria enjoyed fitness and exercise groups at the Simsbury Senior Center, going to plays at the Hartford Stage Company, reading and gardening. She also loved to spend time with her family, traveling with friends and family and taking many day trips throughout New England with her husband Frank. Gloria devoted her life to being a loving wife and nurturing mother and grandmother. She is survived by her five children, Susan Dougherty of Madison, Marybeth Dougherty and her husband Richard Johnson of Hinsdale, IL, Mark Dougherty and his wife Doreen of Simsbury, Glenn Dougherty and his wife Jill of Sharon, MA and Maura Wilcox and her husband James of Chicago, IL; eight grandchildren, Brendan, Christopher, Ryan, Sean, Caitlin, Kyle, Rachel and Erica and two great grandsons, Connor and Dylan and a great granddaughter, Brynn. Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury on Thursday, December 19th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, December 20th at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Church, 942 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury.
