Harrie Schmidt Obituary

Harrie A. Schmidt, Jr., 67, died in Cromwell on Tuesday, December 31, 2013. Born in New Britain on August 18, 1946, son of the late Harrie A. and Marjorie (Rutland) Schmidt, he grew up in Plainville, graduated from Plainville High School and served in the US Army, 82nd Airborne Division. He moved to Seattle and was the caretaker for his parents in their declining years. He was a kind, interesting man of high intellect with a zest for life and constant quest for knowledge. He had interesting stories to tell and a passion for religion, politics, golf and tattoos. He also possessed a mischievous sense of humor. He lived in the moment and thoroughly enjoyed his unique relationship with each person. He is survived by his former wife, Cassandra Simone-Munson and husband Paul of Cromwell; his sister Barbara J. Alex of Windsor; his brother Thomas R. Johnson and wife MaryAnn of Orlando, FL; his three sons, Steven Penta and wife Cari of Plainville, Jay Schmidt and wife Rachel of Abilene, TX, and Alexander Schmidt and wife Jenny of Moncks Corner, SC; seven grandchildren, Nikolas Penta, Kevin, Zachery, Ariana, Hayden, Kai and Evan Schmidt, and step-granddaughter Sabrina Schmidt; nephews Leif DiValentino and wife Holly, Thomas J. Johnson; nieces Andria Alex, Danielle Stinson, and Tiffany Ludington. He was grateful for his dear friends Elga and Henry Brus and Barbara and Ariana DiValentino (Harrie's grand niece) who brought him great joy with their visits and for the staff and fellow patients at Aurora Senior Living who helped with his transition. Burial will be in West Cemetery, Plainville at the convenience of the family. To leave online condolences please visit www.carmonfuneralhome.com.
