Harriet B. Fernquist

Harriet B. Fernquist, age 93, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2014 at the Harbor House Nursing Center in Hingham, MA. She was known for her generosity and cheerful personality. She was born in Trollhattan, Sweden, the daughter of the late Harry and Elsa Wennberg of West Hartford. She arrived in the United States through Ellis Island at the age of ten and was raised in West Hartford. Living in Newport, RI with her husband during WWII, she worked for the State Department before moving to Avon. An Avon resident for 54 years, she was the Director of Avon School Cafeterias for 27 years until retiring in 1982. Harriet was a life-long member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hartford.

Harriet was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Harold Fernquist and their son Allan. She was the devoted mother of Gary Fernquist and late wife Thora of Scituate MA. Loving grandmother of Brett Fernquist and wife Angela of Hanover, MA and Peter Fernquist and wife Bridget of Hingham, MA and proud great grandmother of six. She leaves her sister Doris McGlinchy of West Hartford, her late sister's Elizabeth Johnson and Barbara Foley and many nieces and nephews. She will be laid to rest in Collinsville Ct. Interment will be private.
