Helena Gerron

Helena P. Gerron beloved wife of the late John P. Gerron, Sr. and mother of the late John P. Gerron, Jr. passed away peacefully on Friday, (January 10, 2014) at John Dempsey Hospital. Helena was born and grew up in Hartford and lived the last 58 years in West Hartford. She appeared to be a conventional wife and mother but she made her mark first contributing to the war effort working at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft during World War II. She left Pratt & Whitney after the war but returned to become one of the first female machinists at Pratt & Whitney earning the respect of her male coworkers and paving the way for more women to enter the workforce in non-traditional jobs. Helena was active in her church SS. Cyril & Methodius Church in Hartford where she had earned a stewardship award. She was a member of the Golden Seniors, the Ladies Guild, and was a Past President of PLAV. She is survived by her son, Joseph G. Gerron of West Hartford; her favorite nephew, Mitch Pawlowski and his wife Judy of Glastonbury; their daughter, Caitlin McNamara and her husband Patrick of Manchester; three nieces, Diane Everrett and her husband Max of New Hampshire, Carol Eager and her husband Chris of New Hampshire, and Deborah Matson of Maine; and three nephews, Tom and Mark Pawlowski of Maryland, and Stevie Staniszewski of Virginia. Her family will receive friends on Monday, January 13, 3-7 p.m., at the Waszkelewicz South Green Memorial Home, 43 Wethersfield Ave., Hartford. Family and friends may gather on Tuesday, January 14, 9:15 a.m., at the Waszkelewicz South Green Memorial Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., at SS. Cyril & Methodius Church, Hartford. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the SS.
