Irene Tomasitis Obituary



Irene J. (Januszewski) Tomasitis, 87, of Niantic, the loving wife of 50 years to the late Claude G. Tomasitis, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2014 with her family at her side, following a brief illness. Born in New Britain, the daughter of the late Adam and Rozalia (Sobiech) Januszewski, she raised her family there until relocating to Kensington in 2000. Irene was a lifelong member of the Holy Cross Church in New Britain as well as a member of their Ladies' Guild and Mother's Club. Irene will always be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother whose family meant the world to her. She particularly enjoyed making memories with her 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, who were the apple of her eye. She will be lovingly remembered by her children; Kathleen and husband Timothy Norton of Niantic, Claudia Blanchette and longtime partner John Crandall of Madison and David Tomasitis and wife Lisa of East Berlin; her grandchildren, Kimberly and husband Todd Smith, Kellie and husband Kurt Hayes, Thomas Blanchette and wife Amy, Daniel Blanchette, Christian, Theo and Sergiy Tomasitis; her great grandchildren, Emily, Presley, Jack, Gracelyn, Ava and Jocelyn; her sisters Mary Kaminski, Helen and husband Edward Tomasaitis, and her brother Stanley Januszewski. In addition to her beloved husband Claude, she was predeceased by her sister Lucy Wilks. Irene's funeral will begin on Wednesday, January 22, at 9:30 a.m. at the Burritt Hill Funeral Home, 332 Burritt St. New Britain, CT, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Church in New Britain. She will be laid to rest with her husband Claude in Sacred Heart Cemetery in New Britain, immediately following the Mass. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 8:30-9:30 a.m. immediately prior to the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Irene's name may be directed to the Center for Hospice Care of Southeastern CT, 227 Dunham St. Norwich, CT 06360. To all who loved and cherished Irene,
Please accept my condolences on the loss of your mother, sister, g-mother and friend. I am sorry I cannot be there, however I am thinking of you, as you remember and reflect on all the wonderful happy memories. Irene was a sweet lady and will be sorely missed at family gatherings.
