Irvin "Champ" Bryant Jr.

1925 - 2013

Irvin "Champ" Bryant, Jr., 88, of Windsor, beloved husband to the late Dorothy Lee Bryant, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 while surrounded by his loving family. Irvin was born in Elkton, Virginia on February 8, 1925, son of the late Irvin Bryant, Sr. and Ardella Bryant. He came to Hartford, Connecticut after honorably serving overseas during World War II in the US Army Air Corps. Irvin married his sweetheart, Dorothy Slappy in 1948 and the happy couple shared a wonderful life together until her passing in 2007. After retiring from Ensign-Bickford Company Irvin enjoyed socializing with fellow veterans and was an active member of the American Legion McKinney-King Post #142 in Hartford. Whether he was floating on a lake or pond, out in the rough ocean waves, or resting by a soft brook, Irvin was an avid and successful fisherman and many of his happiest moments in life involved a rod and reel in his hands. Irvin was a man of integrity who believed in hard work and placing the needs of his family first. He was loved and will be mourned by four men he raised, Richard Slappy of Bloomfield, Vanuel Bryant of Windsor, Edward Bryant of Charlotte, NC and Shawn Slappy of Windsor; three daughters, Ardella Jordan and Lori Thompson of Windsor and Paula C. Bryant of Florence, SC; 21 grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren and many friends. Besides his wife, Irvin is predeceased by sister Elssie Bryant, brother Edward Lee Bryant, and son Linwood Slappy. A funeral service will be held Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Avenue in Windsor with burial and military honors immediately following in Windsor Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
