Jacqueline Veronica Dishaw Knight

Jacqueline Veronica (Martin) Dishaw Knight, 81, of Vernon, wife of the late David Knight (1997) and John Dishaw (1974), passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at her home with her family at her side. Born in Hartford, the daughter of the late Charles and Cecelia (Gebo) Martin, she grew up and lived in East Hartford, Ellington and Vernon. She was a graduate of East Hartford High School, Class of 1950. Prior to her retirement in 1985, Jacqueline was a composing room manager for the Journal Inquirer for over 20 years. After her retirement, Jacqueline moved to Nokomis, Florida where she lived until returning to Vernon in 2012. She was very active in the Lake Village Community where she lived, serving on various boards. She loved to read, make puzzles, play shuffleboard, sing, bowl, travel, and crossword puzzles. Jacqueline was a self-taught musician, she played the accordion and organ. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her beloved children, Donna McCombe and her husband Gordon of Vernon, John Dishaw and his wife Adelle of Greenville, TX, Mark Dishaw and his wife Philene of Charleston, SC, Cindy Lett and her husband Frank of East Hartford, and Patricia Dishaw and her companion Everett Donner of Hampton Beach, NH; her stepdaughter, Jenny Knight of Manchester; 7 grandchildren, Meaghan, Marrisa, Sheena, Christopher, Cory, Tyler, and Genevieve; 5 great grandchildren, Hunter, Emerson, Ari, Eitan and Esther; a sister, Theresa Wilkinson of Portsmouth, RI, and many nieces and nephews. Jacqueline was also predeceased by a grandson, Cyle Coffin, a stepson, Thomas Knight, and a sister, Joan Holt. Her family would like to thank all the staff and residents of the Pitkat Congregate Living Center, the Vernon Visiting Nurses, Dr. Kapoor and staff, and everyone at Rockville General Hospital for the wonderful care and support that they gave to Jacqueline. Her family will receive friends for calling hours on Sunday, January 5, 2014 from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road (Route 83), Vernon. A funeral service will be celebrated at the funeral home on Monday, January 6, 2014 at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Ellington Center Cemetery.
