James P. Barrett

1935 - 2013

James Preston Barrett, age 78, of Cromwell, formerly of West Hartford, died December 21, 2013. He was born on March 14, 1935 in Berlin, Connecticut, the son of Stanley and Helen Barrett, and raised in Saybrook. Jim worked as an electrical engineer, then established his own business of Handyman Painters in the area. He leaves behind his three sons, Scott (Wendy) of Leonardsville, NY, Kevin (Sharon) of Shrewsbury, MA, and Bruce (Matt) of Lowell, MA, as well as five grandchildren: Connor, Cassie, Hannah, Nicola, and John. He also leaves his ex-wife, Marian Barrett of West Hartford, and his best friend, companion, and caregiver, Raquel Cramer, of Cromwell. Jim was predeceased by five siblings and leaves one brother, Skip (Doris) Barrett, of Vermont. Jim's faith sustained him during his long struggle with C.O.P.D.. We thank the Hospice Unit of Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, Connecticut for their tender care. Interment is to be private. There will be a memorial service at a later date.
