RAFFERTY, James P.
James P. Rafferty, 90, of South Windsor, beloved husband to Kathleen (LeHane) Rafferty for 61 years, died Sunday (June 16, 2013) at John Dempsey Hospital, Farmington. Born in Hartford on September 15, 1922, son of the late James P. Rafferty and Teresa (Wilson) Rafferty, he had lived in South Windsor for the past 56 years. James was inducted into the U.S. Army Air Corps on January 27, 1943 and was honorably discharged on February 21, 1946 with a rank of corporal. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Providence College and made his career in the label business, culminating in a sales management role with Springfield Label and Tape in Chicopee, MA; he managed a territory throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts. He was active in the South Windsor town library committee and as a member of St. Margaret Mary's parish. He was an avid golfer, loved to watch sports and adored his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he leaves four sons, James P. Rafferty and his wife, Lucinda of Norfolk, MA, Bruce T. Rafferty and his wife, Cheryl of Lake Ronkonkoma, NY, Mark R. Rafferty and his wife, Kathi of Bristol and Richard L. Rafferty and his wife, Stephanie of Breckenridge, CO; a brother, John Rafferty and his wife, Olga of Medford, OR; a sister, Rosalie Welch of South Windsor; seven grandchildren - Erin Palian, Bruce, Robert, Ryan, Connor, Jason and Devin -- three great grandchildren - Emma, Elise and Brendan -- and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday the 22nd at 10 a.m. at Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor, with burial at St. James Cemetery, Manchester. Visiting hours will be on Friday the 21st from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to St. Margaret Mary's Church of South Windsor.
