Janet Ruth Pattrell

Janet Ruth (Conley) Pattrell, 83, formerly of West Hartford and Hartford, died Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Avon Health Center. Born in Queens, NY the daughter of William W. and Henrietta I. (Rankin) Conley, Janet married Robert Pattrell in 1959 and moved to Hartford that year. She taught elementary school in Mastic, Long Island, and Hartford Public Schools at E.B. Kennelly Elementary School. She stopped teaching when her children were young but once they were in school she was a substitute teacher and worked with the West Hartford Individualized Math Program. Utilizing her degree in Special Education, she worked with the developmentally challenged at the Hartford Project Workshop and early intervention programs. She also worked with special education programs at Hartford Regional Center and Oak Hill schools. Janet was a member of the United Methodist Church of Hartford where she was active with the Women's Society/ Women's Guild and taught Sunday school. She is survived by her two sons and their families, Charles Pattrell , his wife Megan, and their three children Daniel, Stephen and Matthew all of Wescosville,PA, and Brian Pattrell, his fiancée Carrie Dube and her daughter Nicky Dube all of Bristol. Janet was predeceased by her husband Robert in 1966, her daughter Patricia in 1987 and her sister Irene Harrison in 2005. Friends and relatives will be received from 4 - 7 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2014 at the Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 136 South Main Street, West Hartford. A Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held at 11am on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at the United Methodist Church, 571 Farmington Avenue, Hartford.
