FOURNIER, Jean Paul

Jean Paul Fournier, 90, of West Hartford, beloved husband of the late Madeleine (Bellefeuille) Fournier, passed away peacefully, Sunday (October 13, 2013) at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center with his family at his bedside. Born in Ste. Marie de Blandford, P. of Quebec, Canada, he had lived most of his life in West Hartford and was a communicant of the Church of St. Timothy, West Hartford. He lived life to its fullest, but most of all loved his family. He was a proud veteran of WWII, having served in B Company, 116 Regiment, 29th Division. He participated in the D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944 at Omaha Beach. The next 7 weeks were spent fighting through the hedgerows of Normandy, France. After the Battle of St. Lo, he was wounded and spent 6 months in an English Hospital. He returned to Germany for the completion of the war. For his bravery, he was a recipient of a Purple Heart, French Legion of Honor Medal and various service medals. After returning home from the war, he returned to West Hartford where he married and raised his family. He was a 50 year member of Local 43, Carpenters Union, where he participated in the construction of many Hartford landmarks, including the Cathedral of St. Joseph. He enjoyed gardening and his woodworking projects. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Normand and Nancy Fournier of Millis, MA and Richard and Janet Fournier of West Hartford. He was the loving pepere to Patricia Mesite and her husband Shaun of Medfield, MA, Amy Walesky and her husband, Matthew of Boston, MA, Andrew Fournier of Boston, MA and Kelley and Katelyn Fournier both of West Hartford. He was grand-pepere to Grayson Mesite and Nina Walesky. Jean Paul is also survived by 2 sisters in Canada along with many in-laws, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers and three sisters.
Funeral procession will be Friday, (October 18), 9 a.m. from the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m. in the Church of St. Timothy, 1116 North Main St., West Hartford. Burial with full military honors will be in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. Calling hours are Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
