Jean Hogan

1931 - 2014

Jean (Austin) Hogan, 82, of South Windsor, beloved wife of 62 years of the late John Henry Hogan, Jr., passed away on Friday (January 24, 2014) at Hartford Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 16, 1931 in Hartford, daughter of Henry and Alice (Heath) Austin. Jean lived in South Windsor for 55 years. She graduated from Weaver High School in 1949.

Jean retired in 1996 from JC Penny Warehouse where she worked as a lead clerk in the traffic department beginning with the opening of the Warehouse in 1982. Prior to this Jean worked for 14 years in the trucking industry for Wooster Express and Mashkin Freight Lines starting as a clerk typist and ending as an inventory control supervisor. She began her career at the Aetna Insurance Company as a transcribing typist. As a child and young adult Jean was a singer, a tap dancer, and performed on local radio. Jean loved spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren leaving behind many wonderful memories. For fun she enjoyed bowling, bingo, and shopping. She spent many hours watching the Boston Red Sox, the UConn men's and women's basketball teams, and the New York Giants.

Jean is survived by her daughter Kathleen Hogan of New York City, her son John Hogan III and his wife Karen of Enfield, and her daughter Christine Schuster and her husband Thomas of Wallingford, six grandchildren John IV and his wife Catherine, Jennifer, and Patrick Hogan, Allison, Kerri and Kaitlyn Schuster and her nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Donald S. Austin.

Funeral Service will be celebrated Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Samsel &

Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor followed by burial at the Wapping Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday, January 27 (TODAY) from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home.
