NORTON, Jeffrey L.
Jeffrey L. Norton, 63, of Bristol, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, (September 25, 2013). He was the husband of Cheryl (Champagne) Norton. Jeff was born in Torrington, CT on April 23, 1950 the son of the late Fredrick and Antoinette "Sally" (Marciano) Norton and lived for many years in New Britain. He was a 1968 graduate of New Britain High school and was a member of the harmless "Earl Street Gang". He was a proud U.S Marine veteran and served during the Vietnam War, Honorably discharged in 1974 as a Corporal. Jeff received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medals, Rifle Marksman Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Combat Action Ribbon. Jeff was a proud postal worker for the Bristol post office for 34 years. His service was from the years of 1973 until he retired in 2007. He made lifelong friendships with his co- workers and considered them extended family. After his retirement he became a 2nd shift supervisor in public safety at Lincoln College for the past 5 years. Jeff was well known for purchasing scratch tickets. He was an animal lover who had a habit of picking up strays that needed a loving home. Jeff was a big teddy bear who would help anyone by giving of his time and talents. Besides his wife, he leaves his daughter, Jodie L. Norton of Southington; stepdaughters, Jennifer Champagne of East Hartford and Angela Nigro of East Windsor: and stepson, Shaun Nigro of Bristol and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sisters Barbara "Bobbie" Higgins, Beverly Bodner, and Priscilla "Patty" Lavato. He leaves behind a lifelong friend who he considered a brother Marc Nicolini of New Britain.
Friends and family are invited to attend calling hours on Saturday, October 5, 2013 from 1-4 p.m. at the O'Brien Funeral home, 24 Lincoln Ave., Forestville/Bristol. Words of remembrance will begin at 3:30 p.m. followed by Military Honors to be accorded at 4 p.m. outside the funeral home.
