BARNAS, John Stephen
John S. Barnas, 59, of Old Lyme and Westerly, RI, died unexpectedly on Sunday, (February 3, 2013) in Groton. Born in Hartford on Dec. 19, 1953, son of Harriet (Zapert) Barnas of Naples, FL and the late James Barnas, he was raised in Bloomfield and attended Bloomfield Public Schools. John worked for many years as a painter and wall paper hanger. He was well-known for his attention to detail and he enjoyed making his customers happy and beautifying their homes and businesses. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, good food, and anything that brought him closer to the shore. John will be remembered for his friendly personality, his willingness to help a friend, and his ability to accept everyone for who they are. Besides his mother, he leaves three daughters, Michele Paige and her husband Christopher of Windsor Locks, Courtney Barnas and Ashley Barnas of Westerly, RI; a son Jeffrey Barnas of Westerly, RI; a sister, Alaine Harris of Old Lyme; a brother, Thomas Barnas and his wife Donna of Vernon; his granddaughter, Marisa Paige; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Paul Barnas and James Barnas; and a sister, Barbara Simon.

Dear Alaine, Harriet, Tommy, and family,
Bob and I are so sorry to read the news about John. He was a kind man who was always willing to lend us a hand at Point 'o Woods. We didn't know that Barbara had died - very sad to lose so many family members. Sending lots of prayers your way.
