John Hansen Obituary



John A. Hansen of Simsbury, CT, died on December 10. 2013, at age 97. An electrical engineer, John was born and educated in Denmark but left for Sweden in 1941 during World War II. There he found employment at ASEA in Ludvika where he met and married his wife Wanja (nee Anderson). They emigrated to the USA in 1946 and 1947 and settled in Milwaukee, WI, where John was employed by Allis Chalmers and Kearney & Trecker, a machine tool builder. In 1960 he joined Hamilton Standard, Windsor Locks, CT, to participate in the development of electron beam welding machines (EBW). Around 1972, this product line was acquired by Leybold-Heraeus and John accepted a position with them in 1975. He retired in 1987 but for Several years enjoyed consulting in the EBW field and by then had many engineering patents. John and his family resided in East Granby from 1960 to 2005 when he and his wife moved to McLean in Simsbury. He leaves his wife of 70 years, Wanja, a daughter Linda, a grandson and granddaughter, and their families, including three great-granddaughters. John has requested no funeral service. He donated his body to the University of Connecticut School of Medicine Anatomical Gift Program.

I am so sorry to hear of John's passing. He was a great friend to my dad, who also came from Kearny & Trecker to Hamiliton Standard.
