JENSEN, John A.
John A. Jensen, 99, of Wethersfield, beloved husband of the late Alice (Lund) Jensen, passed away peacefully at Middlesex Hospital on Monday (October 7, 2013). John was born on July 8, 1914 in Hartford, the son of the late John P. and Marie (Christensen) Jensen. He was one of ten children. John graduated from Bulkeley High School, Class of 1934 and lived in Newington and Wethersfield all of his life. He apprenticed at Pratt & Whitney Machine Tool in West Hartford and later worked as a machinist and supervisor for Fenn Manufacturing. In 1946 he and his father founded The Jensen Machine Company in Newington. Today the company still continues to focus on providing the quality manufacturing and excellent customer service that John worked to establish. John was the longest living member of the Wethersfield Evangelical Free Church, serving as Church Chairman, and was a founding member of the Newington Rotary Club. In addition, John loved to play golf and was a member of the Wethersfield Country Club for 58 years. He played in 22 GHO Pro-Ams and was fortunate to play with a number of famous professional golfers, including Sam Snead. As a former member of the Royal Dornoch Golf Club in Scotland, John and his son Jack traveled extensively in Scotland to play golf with many friends. An avid outdoorsman, John loved to hunt and fish and spent many summers with his family vacationing in Maine. He also loved "splitting" wood and could never pass up an opportunity to gather fallen trees for his extensive wood pile on the lot next to his home. John will dearly be missed by his three children; a son, John A. (Jack) Jensen, Jr. and his wife Audrey; two daughters, Louise Oxenhorn and Lynn Nappi and her husband Mark, all of Wethersfield. He leaves three grandchildren whom he loved and was very proud of: Reverend Matthew Jensen and his wife Suzanne of Kodiak, AK, Mark Jensen of Pittsburgh, PA and Luke Jensen and his wife Mary Kay of Wethersfield; five great grandchildren, Justin, David, Emily, Alison and Anders; a brother, Milton of New Hampshire and two sisters, Sally Yacovone of Florida and Elna Dimock of Bolton, as well as many nieces and nephews. John also leaves his wonderful, compassionate and loving caregiver Edward, who has been with the family for six years. His sisters, Ruth Pratt, Mabel Dunphy, Mary Twible and his brothers, Howard, Amos and Herbert predeceased him.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Wethersfield Evangelical Free Church (see address below). Everyone is asked to go directly to the church. Burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford will be private. Friends and family are invited to gather on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wethersfield Evangelical Free Church Memorial Fund, 511 Maple Street, Wethersfield, CT 06109 or the Hospice & Palliative Care Unit at Middlesex Hospital, 28 Crescent Street, Middletown, CT 06457. We are saddened at the loss of John. He was one of the first people we meet at WEFC and we were friends immediately. Our loss is heaven's gain. I used to tell him in light of eternity, what is 99?? And now he is in the presence of Jesus and will be there for eternity. We are so thankful for all he did to build and uphold the church. Our love and prayers are with you all.

My thoughts and prayers to each of you. I am blessed to have been his nephew and additionally blessed have had the opportunity to work for and with Uncle John at Jensen Machine. I am thankful too for the many times and ways he shared his faith - quietly by example. God's peace, Peter

Mr. Jensen was one of the most remarkable men that I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I found it such an enjoyable moment on Thursday evening when he would arrive to have dinner with his friends at the WCC. I know that he will be missed by many. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. May God Bless you all during this time of sorrow.

I wish to extend my deepest sympathy to both the Jensen and Nappi familiies in your time of grief. John Jensen was a true Christian gentleman. Jon was as humble and sincere as they come. I will greatly miss a man I considered a friend and role model to everyone he touched. There was never a better member of WCC. John is in my thoughts and prayers. Robert Mooney
