LANDOLINA, John Concetto
John Concetto Landolina, 87, of Windsor Locks, CT and Port Charlotte, FL, died peacefully at home on Thursday, March 28, 2013. John was born September 14, 1925 and raised in Hartford by his parents the late Michael and Angelina (Martellaro) Landolina of Noto, Sicily. He retired from Taylor & Fenn in 1981 after working 43 years as a metallurgist. He was a member of the Hartford YMCA for over 40 years, where he enjoyed competitive handball and racket ball. He was a Navy combat veteran of World War II serving as a gunner on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Ticonderoga in the Pacific theatre. He was on board when the ship was hit by two kamikazes on January 21, 1945 causing severe damage and loss of life, but the crew refused to let the ship sink. The Big T limped back to port for repairs and returned to service. John was proud to have participated in the Magic Carpet Ride program in which his carrier went from island to island in the Pacific picking up American servicemen after the war. John was recalled for the Korean War and served the entire time at Pearl Harbor. In retirement John enjoyed Navy reunions, trips to various casinos, traveling with his wife, dancing, golf, and time with family. John is survived by his wife Alice (Costa) Landolina; and sons David of Rochester, NH; Kevin and wife Sandra of East Granby; John and wife Susan of Windsor Locks; Stephen Boyle of Barkhamstead, Carl and wife Lynn also of East Granby. He had seven grandchildren; Vanessa, Anthony, Lindsay, Maxwell, Jillian, Allison, and Sophie. John leaves his brothers Paul of Cape Coral, FL, Salvatore of Old Saybrook, CT; and James of Cromwell, CT. John was predeceased by his first wife Alice (Lopes) and his brother Frank. The family would like to thank the staff and workers of MasoniCare hospice, especially Lisa and Josh.

Uncle John was loved very much by his immediate family, his extended family and friends. He was kind, funny, and I enjoyed very much talking with him. He cared so much about people. My parents enjoyed spending time with Uncle John and Aunt Alice and choose to retire in Punta Gorda,FL so that they could remain close. He will have everyone laughing in heaven. I'm so sorry for your loss. He will be truly missed. Love to all.
