Josephine Nelson Obituary
Josephine (Jo) Nelson, 81, formerly of Somers, died peacefully Dec. 29, 2013 with her son William and his husband, Robert D'Errico, at her side in New Haven. Born Josephine Green in Greenport, NY on Jan. 10, 1932 to the late William and Edith (Moore) Green, she grew up in Southampton, NY, before marrying the late Paul A. Nelson in 1955. They were residents of Somers for 42 years. Jo was a tireless caregiver to her husband for many years and a volunteer for Johnson Memorial Hospital, MS Society, PFLAG and Hospice. After raising her children, she retired from Hamilton Standard. Jo was most happy caring for others, and her greatest joy was being a mother and grandmother. Besides William C. Nelson of Hamden, CT, she leaves daughter Anne M. Nelson of San Francisco, CA and son Andrew P. Nelson of Portland, OR. She was predeceased by son Paul J. Nelson of Hopkinton, MA. She leaves grandchildren Evan Nelson and Emma Nelson and sisters Betty Zumpol of Lindenhurst, NY, Lillian Miller of S. Daytona Beach, FL, and Emily Iannucci of Port Orange, FL. She was predeceased by sisters Doris Pfeffer and Margaret Henion. Funeral services will be at Sisk Brothers Funeral Home 3105 Whitney Ave. Hamden, Saturday January 4 at Noon. Friends may call on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Dear Will, Bob, Andrew and Family, Anne and Family, and Betty,
I am just so overwhelming saddened to hear of your moms/sisters passing. Katie and I went to call her, unknowingly to wish her Happy Birthday today and to share the news of Katie's upcoming wedding. We honestly had no idea and we are just feeling so badly that we were not there to help comfort you. We so loved your mom, and she was always a mentor to me and like a second mother to me for a very long time. Jo and you all will always have special places in our hearts. I hope that is ok, that we posted a photo of her with us, as that photo above all others was a very special one to all of us. Much love goes out to you all, and again, we are just so saddened to hear this news.
