SCHROEDER, Julian E.
Julian Edward Schroeder, 87, of Avon, died Saturday, (April 6, 2013) at River Ridge, after a year-long battle with brain cancer. Born in Sheboygan, WI, Dec. 27, 1925 to the late George and Hilda (Beeck) Schroeder, Julian attended Sheboygan public schools and graduated from Central High School in 1944. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in July 1944, was inducted in Groton and served in the Pacific as a submariner until his discharge in June 1946 with the rank of Fireman, First Class. He returned to WI, married Audrey Ann Eberhardy on Sept. 10, 1949, and received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from University of Wisconsin at Madison in Jan. 1951. He worked for Georgia Pacific for over 37 yrs, with several job promotions resulting in moves to Menasha, Neenah and Marinette, WI; Chambersburg, PA; Louisville, KY; and Weston. Julian and Audrey retired to Lake Gaston in Littleton, NC in Jan. 1990, and returned to Connecticut in May 2003, settling in Edgewood Estates, an Active Adult Community in Farmington. Active throughout his adult life in Kiwanis and Lions Club organizations, Julian was named Unionville, CT "Lion of the Year" in 2004. He served as the treasurer of the Longbridge Fire Department in Littleton for several years, and was also on the Board of Directors of Eaton Ferry Estates in Littleton, and Edgewood Estates in Farmington. He was an active member of the CT VFW, Chapter 3272 and the U.S. Submarine Veterans WWII Central CT Chapter. Julian is survived by his wife of 63 yrs, Audrey, daughter Ellen Schroeder and her husband Chet Dilday of Fayetteville, NC, son Roy Schroeder and his wife Deborah of Louisville, KY, daughter Joan (Schroeder) Selvage of Canton, daughter Claire Schroeder of Simsbury, four grandchildren, 3 stepgrandchildren, 9 step-great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law Carol (Eberhardy) Trimberger of Gold River, CA and Theresa Jane Eberhardy of Rio Rancho, NM, brother-in-law Roger Eberhardy of Sheboygan, WI, and 12 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a niece, Julie Trimberger, his sister, Laverne (Schroeder) Trgovec, brothers-in-law George Trgovec, Vernon Eberhardy, and Leon Trimberger, and nephew Steve Trgovec.
Friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Rt. 4, Unionville on Friday, April 12 from 5-7 p.m. Funeral procession from The Ahern Funeral Home will be Saturday, April 13 at 9:15 a.m. followed by the Funeral Liturgy in the Church of St. Mary Star of the Sea, Unionville at 10 a.m. Burial with full military honors will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Avon.
