Kathryn Mary (McNicholas) O'Hara returned to her eternal home on Sunday, December 15, 2013. The daughter of James McNicholas and Mary (Casey) McNicholas, she was born on August 17, 1923 in Youngstown, OH. She was a graduate of St. Ann's School and Ursuline High School, both in Youngstown. During World War II and for many years beyond she worked in the offices of GF Manufacturing in Youngstown. She was married to Robert J. She leaves behind her son Robert, his wife Rosanne, grandson John, and granddaughters Kathleen and Elizabeth all of Simsbury, CT. She is also survived by two sisters in Youngstown, Florence O'Connor and her husband Thomas and Marion Kosinski, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, daughter and parents, she was predeceased by a brother James, brother-in-law Stanley Kosinski, sisters-in-law, Sally McNicholas, Loretta Hess and Dorothy Thornton. Kathryn was a devoted Catholic who attended daily mass for most of her adult life. She belonged to St. Ann's Parish for 37 years, St Edward's Parish in Youngstown for more than 50 years and since 2010 to St. Catherine of Siena, West Simsbury, CT. She was a member of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers, Seton III and the St. Elizabeth Health Center Auxiliary, where she volunteered for 33 years in the gift shop and knitted blankets for newborns for an additional ten years. The family would like to thank her compassionate caregivers at Virginia Connelly and McLean Health Center in Simsbury, CT and St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT. Holding you all in thoughts and prayers. In the short time I knew Kathryn, she made lasting and loving impressions on my heart. I can only imagine the depth of heart ache for those who knew her longer.

On behalf of President/Chief Administrator David Eustis and the entire Northwest Catholic High School community, I offer my deepest sympathy on the passing of Kathryn O'Hara.

Because her son, former NWC School Board chair Robert O'Hara, and her grandchildren, John O'Hara '07, Kathleen O'Hara '11, and Elizabeth O'Hara '15, are cherished members of our school family, we feel that Kathryn was, too, and we mourn her death along with all those who love her.

Please know that we are holding all of Kathryn's family very close to our hearts this week, and that we will include her on the prayer list at our next school-wide Mass. We are very sorry for your loss.

~ Kimberly Sanders Spera, Director of Communications, Northwest Catholic High School
