DeSIMONE, Laura
Laura (Silvestri) DeSimone, 93, of Newington, passed away peacefully on Monday (October 28, 2013). She was the beloved wife of the late Matthew E. DeSimone. Born in Hartford, daughter of the late Nunzio and Assunta (Silvestri) Silvestri, she was a New Britain resident for many years, moving to Newington in 1960. She retired in 1982 from Keeney Manufacturing, Newington, after 14 years of employment. Mrs. DeSimone was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit, Newington, and its Ladies Guild. She was also a member of the Ladies of Columbus, Newington. She loved to cook and bake for her family and was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She leaves two sons, Ronald DeSimone and his wife Michele of Rocky Hill, and Gary DeSimone in Florida; a daughter-in-law Donna DeSimone of Newington; five grandchildren, Matthew J. DeSimone, Jr. of East Berlin, David DeSimone and his wife Kate of East Granby, James, Christopher and Michelle DeSimone; and three great grandchildren Ella, Jonathan and Nicholas. She also leaves a brother-in-law and sister-in-law John and Alice DeSimone of Old Saybrook; a sister-in-law Dorothy Silvestri of Newington; and several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her son Matthew J. DeSimone, Sr., a brother John Silvestri, and sisters Ann Laurinaitis and Rose Menasian. Her family would like to extend its deepest gratitude to the staff of Jefferson House for all the loving care and kindness shown to Laura throughout the years.
Her funeral service will begin on Saturday, Nov. 2, at 9 a.m. at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Newington Memorial. In memory of her beloved son Matthew, memorial donations may be made to the Smilow Cancer Center at Yale-New Haven, "Closer to Free Fund", P. O. Box 7611, New Haven, CT -6519-0611. I was sorry to hear about your mother's passing. I remember sitting near her in church and she would tell me about her boys and wonderful grandchildren. She would beam when she talked about all of you. I'm sure she will be deeply missed.

Dear Ron and Michele-
I am so sorry to learn of the death of your mother/mother-in-law.
I did not have the pleasure of knowing her, but I read her obituary.
She lived a full life and sounds like a wonderful person.
