ACABCHUK, Leigh (Young)
Leigh (Young) Acabchuk, 28, of Windsor, passed away on Tuesday, (October 1, 2013) after a valiant battle with cancer. Leigh lived in Windsor, and attended Windsor High School, where he enjoyed playing sports and spending time with his friends. Leigh also lived in Florida for a time where he loved life in the sun and didn't miss the Connecticut winters or the snow in the least. He was an avid Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins fan, and enjoyed his work in landscaping. Leigh lived his life with no fears. He took chances and experienced life to its fullest. Those closest to Leigh understood that underneath his tough exterior was a man with a heart of gold, a man who looked out for his family and friends, and a man who would stand up for the "little guy." His will and strength and ability to overcome were examples to all who shared in his life. Leigh is survived by his wife, Sherry; his daughter, Lilah Leigh; and his step daughter, Alexandra, all of Port Charlotte, FL; his parents, Debbie (Shufelt) and Keith Acabchuk of Windsor, and Keri (Feder) Shufelt of South Windsor; his brothers, Nathan Acabchuk of Windsor, and Andrew and Justin Feder of South Windsor; his grandparents, Alan and Sandy Shufelt of Windsor; his uncle, Scott Shufelt and his wife Jennifer of Windsor; and his uncle, Todd Shufelt and his wife Megan of Windsor Locks; and his nieces and nephews, Paige Shufelt and Clayton and Rhylee Shufelt. Leigh will also be truly missed by his extended families, the Feder's of Connecticut and Florida, the Acabchuk's of Connecticut; and the Brodeur's of Florida; and many beloved friends. The family wishes to thank Tidewell Hospice of Florida, Masonicare of East Hartford, and Hebrew Health Care of West Hartford, for all the love and care they gave to Leigh.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Leigh's honor to these organizations for showing such devotion to his well being and comfort. Leigh's time came too soon and he will be greatly missed. His family and friends feel truly blessed to have shared in his life and will forever keep his spirit alive in their hearts and memories. We know that he is at peace now and will be watching over and protecting us until we can be with him again. His family will receive friends at Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor, on Friday, October 4, 1-2 p.m., with a service at 2 p.m. For online condolences, please visit www.cremationct.com.

May Leigh rest in peace. All his family members and friends are in my prayers. I hadn't seen Leigh in several years, but I remember the last time I saw him, even though it had been several years since I had seen him at that time- he was no stranger. Always friendly and easy to talk to. Thank you to Leigh for showing your fun loving spirit while you were with us, your memories will live on. I know your friends and family will miss you.

I remember Leigh when he played baseball with my son in Windsor. A fine young man as I recall. We're very sad to hear of his passing.
