Leona Nestor

1920 - 2013

Leona (Leventhal) Nestor, 93, of New London and Mystic, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2013 at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London. Leona was born on January 31, 1920, daughter of Reba (Sofness) and Hyman Leventhal of Sharon, MA. She grew up in Sharon, MA. She married Joseph Nestor in 1943 and they operated Nestor's Interiors in Hartford, CT for many years. Leona is predeceased by her husband, Joseph Nestor, her two brothers Melvin Leventhal and Sanford Leventhal, and her daughter-in-law, Bonnie Nestor. She is survived by two children, Ted Nestor of N. Granby, and his children, Dana Nestor of Hartford, and Jesse Nestor of N. Granby. Karen Goodspeed and her husband, Ron and their 4 children, Dawn Klinghoffer and her husband Rich of Seattle, WA, Meredith Kleinman and her husband Mark Johnson, of Los Angeles, CA, Jennifer Goodspeed and her husband Erik Hoffner of Ashfield, MA, and Chris Goodspeed and his fiancée Alicia LaConte of Frederick, CO. She also leaves two great-grandchildren, Hannah and Niela Klinghoffer of Seattle, WA and many nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at Weinstein Mortuary in Hartford on Monday, December 16 at 1:00 PM. Burial will be in Temple Beth El Cemetery in Avon, CT. There will be no calling hours. Donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association or Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.
