Margaret Sabo

1914 - 2013

Margaret (Stearn) Sabo, 98, of Leland, NC, formerly of North Bellmore, NY, and Westbrook and Manchester, CT, wife of the late Ernest S. Sabo, died peacefully on Wednesday, October 9, 2013, in North Carolina. She was born on December 22, 1914, in Chicago, IL, daughter of the late Julius and Elizabeth (Vuchetich) Stern. A resident of Long Island, NY for many years, Margaret worked for the New York Life Insurance Company and Massapequa General Hospital. In her retirement in CT, she enjoyed volunteering at the Senior Center, taking her grandchildren to the beach, doing the N.Y. Times crossword puzzles, and playing cards. Margaret lived a full and gracious life. She was a kind, caring and devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, friend, and caretaker who will be greatly missed by all. She had an infectious smile that was always present, was very compassionate, touched many lives and was known to always have a good joke to tell. She leaves her son, Steven Sabo and his wife Sharon of North Carolina, five grandchildren, Wendi Rumph, Betsy Cullen, Tara-Sabo Attwood and her husband Morgan, Tiffany Sabo, and Amy Pitruzzello and her husband Michael, six great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Virginia Moessner, her brother, Theodore Stearn, and sister, Helen Malat. Her family will receive friends on Saturday, December 7, 2013, from 10-11 a.m., at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor, CT; followed by a Memorial Service, officiated by her niece, the Rev. Peg Stearn, to begin at 11 a.m. Burial will be private at the request of her family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
